The power of responding appropiately to conflict is revealed once you’ve passed the test.
In the heat of the moment, when emotions are running wild, every crazy idea seems sane. We think: “Of course I should take vengeance, of course I should make them pay, of course I have the right–look at what they did!”
During heated situations, I encourage you to take on David’s posture.
“David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.”
1 Samuel 30:6 NIV
Your response is your responsibility. Let us continually strive to govern ourselves the way the Bible instructs us to.
“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.”
Romans 8:6-8 NIV
It is by obedience and the way that we choose love over impulse reactions, that people see we follow God.
““A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.””
John 13:34-35 NIV
